British Museum Top 20 08 Nenkheftka  [14 of 30]

8 Nenkheftka – tomb at Deshasha Egypt, 2400 BC, 1.3m high. The painted limestone statue of a provincial official has excellent facial features and great detail on the wig. Statues such as this were intended to keep the memory and the personality of the deceased person alive, so that even if his body were destroyed his spirit would still be able to reside in the statue.
